New construction is on the rise all over Chicago. Taller high rises are being proposed, and plans are being approved every year. By 2020 Chicago will have almost 50 new high rise buildings. These will be used as condominiums, office spaces, and retail throughout the community.
This new development stretches as far north as Edgewater and as far south as Hyde Park. Newly completed buildings such as 1407 on Michigan, 465 North Park, CNA Center, No. 9 Walton, Solstice on the Park, Eleven40, Hilton Garden Inn McCormick Center, Wicker Park Connection II, and Marlowe, are changing communities throughout the city and setting new standards for architecture. New developments like this change more than just the city skyline. We see an increase in the need for skilled labor as well as a demand for construction materials. With the construction of new buildings we can also expect updates to the existing city’s public transportation stations as well as additions and expansions to be exposed. The newly landscaped city views brings more than just new residents to the area but an uptick to the travel and tourist industry. With Chicago being one of the most visited places in the midwest the new developments do bring up opportunities for new engineering jobs where traditional materials like concrete and steel are used or lighter materials such as carbon fiber can be incorporated to make tall buildings both stronger and more efficient.
